Digital X-rays are useful for diagnosing damage and disease that is otherwise not visible during your general examination. Low levels of radiation are used to capture images of the inside of your teeth and gums. They hold the same importance as your regular teeth cleanings because they’re useful in helping our team identify cavities, periodontal disease, bone or gum loss, and examine other normal or abnormal structures of your teeth and jawbone.
At Dr. Betcher’s office, digital X-rays are typically performed on a yearly basis. You might need X-rays more frequently if you’ve had extensive restorative work, drink a lot of sugary beverages, have periodontal disease, have dry mouth, or smoke regularly.
While dental X-rays involve the use of radiation, the exposure levels are so low that they’re considered safe for children and adults. If you have any questions or concerns about the process, our skilled team will give you the answers.
